Two Antique Mother Of Pearl Thread WindersEnglish * Circa 1850
These antique silk winders are carved of lustrous mother of pearl. One is in a
scooped square shape with a slot for holding the thread end.
The other is more scooped with carved corners. They measure 2 1/4" x 1 5/8" and 1 3/4" x 1 1/8".
Both are in excellent
condition with no chips, cracks or other damage.
Gay Ann Rogers shows a winder like the larger one on p. 163 of her book
An Illustrated History of Needlework Tools.
