water pitcher.
Moore opened shop in New York City in 1832,
several brief partnerships followed.
In the 1840s mostly working alone
using the
J.C.M. mark,
found on the Bacchus water pitcher offered today.
By 1851 made most of the silver for
Tiffany & Co.
eventually managing
their silver shop
Hallmarked as shown, Moore's JCM very early mark used in the 1840s.
Retailer Ball Tompkins & Black, New York listed 1839 - 1851.
This c1845 John C. Moore silver Bacchus spout water pitcher 9 inches
tall and 8 1/2 handle to spout weighs 38 1/2 standard ounces.
Period engraved J.V. Montgomery, the original owner.
In fine condition.
Interior clean as if little used.
Retains original hand carved detail.
Rich silver patina throughout.
Few tiny dinks lower near base.
Sells world wide.
