    Description

Silver salt dish, maker's mark CC,
    circa
    1790-1810
Circular dish with bulbous body and flaring rim. The body of the dish is a sturdy, unbendable gauge silver. Applied foot of a slightly sturdier gauge. Marked inside dish with a tightly spaced CC in rectangle. Some light surface wear to the mark. Isolated small repair to body in bulbous area - as shown in my pictures. The repair appears to be old.
The color and appearance of the silver is consistent with coin silver, not a duller European-type color. Found in the southern states. If American coin silver, some candidates would be Charles Carpenter, Norwich, CT & Boston (1790), whose mark in
    Belden
is very close to this; also Charles Candell, N.Y. (1795-1800) and Christian Cornelius, Philadelphia (c. 1810-19).
    Diameter: 2-5/8" Height: 1-1/16"
