Description
This is a new 2017 book by Catherine Hollan, VIRGINIA and WEST VIRGINIA SILVERSMITHS and Related Artisans to 1900. 6 by 9 inches, 302 pages, softbound. This is an abridgement of Hollan's massive 1091 page volume on Virginia silversmiths, published in 2010, enhanced with an extension of the covered period to 1900 and listings of craftsmen by location. Brief listings of silversmiths, jewelers, watch and clockmakers and other artisans-
Hundreds of never previously listed craftsmen and women.
A great research book with
well over a thousand photos of marks, advertising, and design features. Numerous new marks with carefully researched attributions. All in a portable 6 by 9 format. This is the best and most authoritative information available. Old mis-attributions are corrected, carefully researched attributions are made. A stunning book and a must for anyone buying or selling American Coin Silver. I find that the listing of of many marks and smiths that have been previously incorrectly attributed to Virginia to be particularly helpful. If you need more extensive information on the pre-1860 craftsmen the unabridged version is still available, please see my other listings.
Sorry about the photos- my scanner is apparently out of sorts. The text and photos are perfectly dark and not blurry at all. I will be happy to answer any questions.
