Description
A fantastic coin silver ladle. This ladle was created by Thomas Burr Leavenworth of Detroit Michigan circa 1880 or earlier. He is listed as a silversmith in Detroit as late as 1875, with a move to Central City South Dakota in 1880.
The ladle is hallmarked "T.B. LEAVENWORTH DETROIT", measures just over 12 inches tall and the bowl is 4 inches wide. Leavenworth was true to early styles and quality of silver by creating this unusually heavy ladle, 315 grams and free from decoration.
The neck also reads "John Hawson to J.P. Whitney 1881". The ladle seems to suffer from possibly stress to the silver, or it was caught in a fire. But one can see inconsistencies in the silver on nearly every inch of the ladle.
A unique ladle perfect for a collection of any caliber.
