Description
Early Gorham coin silver cup, christening cup/presentation cup/child's cup. The Gorham markings on the bottom show the Lion, Anchor and G, with Lion still facing left. This was used in the time range of 1848-1868. The cup is 2 3/4" across the top from one edge to the tip of the handle, the bottom is 2" across, and the piece is 2 3/16" tall. Around the top outside edge is a well done Greek key design. This same Greek key design runs across the top flat surface of the handle and all the way down its curve to where it joins the bowl. The piece is engraved on the front face of the bowl, that face opposite the handle location, with "CARRIE" in fancy lettering, and the date "March 10. 1859". The cup is in excellent antique condition, made from heavy gauge coin silver, it shows two very small dents less than 1/4" in length. I have tried to get the light on them to show in the pictures, but as small as the are, they don't show much in the pictures or in hand.
