    Description

Amazing Early 1850s Tijuana custom house Silver Souvenir Spoon By San Francisco. Braverman & Levy a retailer in SF may have produced this for a Tijuana Mexico retailer. I suspect that they may have purchased the spoon from a local Silversmith and etched the customs House image in the bowel
The coin silver spoon I date to the 1850s for several reasons 1) the fiddle style was common in the 1840s & 50s. Firms such as Braverman & Levy were dealing with Sterling (92.5%) purity by the 1860s. ‘This coin silver spoon (90% silver) was typical prior to the 1860s.
Braverman and Levy, Watchmakers and Manufacturing Jeweler appeared in San Francisco in the early 1850s during the great gold rush.
In the photos I’ve included a December 17, 1854, ad in the Daily Alta California, San Francisco, California,
