Description
This listing is for a very nice hand-hammered repousse footed silver bowl made in a Spanish Colonial style. The lower panel of the bowl has the repousse design while the upper panel has etched designs including birds, rabbits, swans & squirrels. The 4 feet are snakes. This is a very fine, well-made piece by Alfredo Ortega and Sons in business at 13 Cinco de Mayo, Mexico City, Mexico in the early 20th century. The hallmark on the bottom dates the piece to between 1900 and 1920. The silver standard of this piece is 900 which is 90% silver. Sterling is 92.5%. Coin silver (90%) was more common in the late 19th and early 20th century. This footed bowl is piece is 7 1/2" in diameter and 3 1/4" tall. It is made of heavy gauge silver and weighs 14.15 troy ounces.
Very good condition. I have lightly polished this piece but it could use a more thorough polishing. It has the slightest wobble when placed on a flat surface.
