    Description

    American coin silver soup tureen, ca 1850. Ovoid and tapering bowl on short plain support on raised oval foot. Open end handles mounted with Classical masks. Floral repousse on stippled ground. Cover domed. Cast finial in form of a buffalo-a shaggy, loping beast, whose roaming range is confined to the cover top. Leaf cartouche (vacant). Unidentified mark. Excellent condition. Dimensions: H 12 3/4 x W 15 5/8 x D 9 1/2 in. Heavy weight: 89 troy ounces.
    With: American sterling silver ladle. Made by Stieff in Baltimore. Curved and tapering handle with repousse floral ornament. A nice piece in Rose pattern. Marked "Sterling-Stieff". Excellent condition. Height: 12 1/2 in. Weight: 8.5 troy ounces. #BU259
