Antique Shellwork Sewing Notions Box

Description

This unusual example of shell work turned up at a local estate sale.
It functions as a trinket or miniature sewing box and was made from a small paper covered, doll house size mirrored bureau.
Various shells were glued to the top, sides were grain painted, and the top lifts up for storage. Probably made in Europe, possibly Germany, and circa 1900 give or take 20 years.
Measures around 3 in. x 4 ½ in. and stands 5 7/8 in. high.
Dusty, wear on edges, few shells missing, paper tear on side.
Even so, this is such an unusual item and would make a great addition to any collection.
