    Description

Antique Gilded Silver Stiletto / Awl
    French * Circa 1850
The handle of this lobed gilded silver awl is beautifully shaped and embossed with little scrolled designs on both sides.
It's solid silver that has been gilded with gold. It has no marks but is definately French and tests
    800/1000 pure silver.
The shank is steel with a turned top and a sharp point
    .
The silver is in excellent condition with no dents or other damage and it measures 2 7/8" long. These pieces are most often seen as part of French sets in wedge shaped cases. Several sets in this style are shown on p. 47 of
    Gay Ann Rogers' book
An Illustrated History of Needlework Tools.
