Antique Cased French Silver Sewing SetCirca 1900s
The silver sewing tools in this French necessaire are embossed with fluted designs that contain laurel leaf, ribbon and bow motifs. The set includes a pair of scissors, a needle case, a stiletto and a thimble. The tools are nestled into the fitted velvet and satin lined interior of the wooden case that is covered with alligator embossed paper. The tools all have the French boar's head hallmarks used for 800/1000 pure silver made in Paris. The thimble also has the maker's mark for a Parisian thimble maker, Alfred Féau (used from 1875-1913).
The scissors are 3 5/8" long. They have steel blades with intact points and they cut very well. The thimble is in excellent condition, crisp and in round with no holes or other damage. It is about an American size 8 (15 mm diameter opening) and is gilded inside. The silver on all of the tools is in excellent condition with no dents or damage. The case has wear but is in overall nice condition inside and out. It measures 5" x 3 1/4" and closes well with a flip down brass clasp.
