Antique Cased 8 Piece Silver Sewing SetGermany * Circa 1900
This silver needlework set is special for several reasons. It is extensive, with
8 tools including a very unusual glove darner. Included are a needle case, bodkin, seam ripper, crochet hook, stiletto, scissors, thimble and the darner. Most are marked with the German crown and half moon hallmarks as well as "800" (for 800/1000 pure silver) and the maker's mark for
Lutz & Weiss. The thimble has a stone top and is marked inside the top "925-Sterling". It was probably made by Gabler as Lutz & Weiss didn't make thimbles. The tools all have laurel leaf like designs and look to be original to the set.
The scissors are 4 3/8" long. The steel blades are tight with intact points and they cut like new to the tips.
The thimble is about an American size 9 (15.5 mm diameter opening) and is in great condition with no holes, dents or other damage
. Other than a small ding on one side of the needle case, all of the tools are in perfect condition with no dents, rust or other damage.
The fitted wooden case is covered with textured paper and has the original interior linings. It has a little scuffing but is in overall excellent condition inside and out and closes well with a flip down clasp. It measures 7 1/8" by 5 1/2".
