    Description

Antique Carved Mother Of Pearl Emery Cushion
    English * Circa 1850
This nice little Victorian mother of pearl cushion is carved with rows of faceted borders around each side.
The mother of pearl is very luminous.
It has a silk ribbon cushion and
measures 1" in diameter. It is filled with emery powder and was used to sharpen steel needles as well as clean rust off.
The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage and the silk cushion and bow are intact.
Some like this are shown on p. 135 of Gay Ann Rogers' book
An Illustrated History of Needlework Tools.
It would have been part of a workbox set of sewing tools.
I stand behind everything that I offer and
    guarantee
that it is exactly as presented.
