    Description

Antique Carved Bone Heart Thread Winder in Box
    English * Circa 1850
    This
ornately carved and pierced box is made of bone*. It contains a delicately pierced bone
silk winder carved with heart designs. The winder measures almost 1" in diameter and the base of the box is 1 1/8" in diameter. The top is 1 3/8" in diameter.
The condition of both the box and winder is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage
. It would have originally contained a set of these winders. This box and winder are shown on p. 13 of Diane Pelham Burn's book
    Thread Winders, A Collector's Guide
    .
*These items are made of bone from a domestic cow (bovine) and not from an endangered species.
