THIS AMERICAN SILVER CREAMER WAS MADE circa 1795. IT IS IN THE FORM OF A HELMET WITH BEADED BORDERS AND A SQUARE PEDESTAL FOOT. IT IS MONOGRAMED TWICE - UNDER SPOUT "LP"? and ON SIDE "MMC" VERY FANCY. THE CREAMER STANDS 7" TALL TO TOP OF HANDLE AND WEIGHTS 173 GRAMS.
IT IS ARTIST STAMPED TWICE ON SIDE OF BASE "J.R." IN RECTANGLE.
HE WAS A FOURTH GENERATION GOLDSMITH IN THE FAMILY. HIS GREAT-GRAND FATHER FRANCIS WAS BORN IN NEW YORK IN 1681 AND MOVED TO PHILADELPHIA IN 1690.
JOSEPH JR. WOULD GO ON TO BE APPOINTED THE FIRST ASSAYER AT THE PHILADELPHIS MINT BY GEOEGE WASHINGTON IN 1795. A GREAT PEICE OF AMERICAN HISTORY!
