Description

This is a very old applique from a tattered 19th Century dress.  The lace trim has been in my collection for more than 50 years, and I got it from an 80-year-old woman who said it belonged to her mother.
Very interesting 3D piece with covered shapes called marquise or navette (elongated ovals with pointed ends).  It is a hand made form of tape lace using cords of various types attached to backing netting.   Both top and underside are shown in the photos.
Unusual shape with dipped upper edge and 3 points in the lower edge.
Color is black with daring specks of gold and dark purple.  The middle cords on the 3 marquise shapes look like metalic cord of some kind (probably once were shiny).
Side to side it measures 7 3/4 inches,  longest dimension top to bottom is 7 inches and at the scoop it is top to bottom 5 1/2 inches.
Each marquise is 2 inches by 3/4 inches.
Completely unique !
