Description

A superb Baltimore assayed Samuel Kirk goblet inscribed as a sharp-shooting trophy July 4th, 1832. This fascinating piece consists of a hand-raised base soldered on to a repousse body. It bears the 'KIRK' mark, the Baltimore seal, and the date letter 'C', which is either 1819 or 1821. It is engraved as follows, "Awarded to the best shot in the Company of Independent Sharp Shooters July 4th 1832'. On the reverse in the same script is the name of the winner 'John Hamilton Lee'. This goblet weighs 156 grams and measures 4 2/3" inches high and just under three inches diameter at the lip. While slightly out of round and with a slight lean, there are no other concerning flaws. With fine rich patina throughout, an undoubtedly rare and desirable object for the Baltimore or Kirk collector
