A. E. Warner coin silver bowl from the 19th century, standing on 4 feet shaped as realistic animal legs, with two handles, and with high-relief flowers in repousse pattern. It measures 7'' from handle to handle by 3 1/2'' in height, weighs 12.1 ozt, and bears hallmarks as shown.
The silversmith A.E. Warner from Maryland was born in 1786. He began work in 1805, having been trained by his father, a watchmaker and silversmith, and went on to work with his brother for many years, and alone, as well. In the end, his son took the reins, and he died while still actively working in 1870. Some of his pieces belong to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
