Description
1816-1818 Fab Antique American Coin Silver Coffee Teapot Whartenby & BummPresented is a fabulous antique American coin silver tea or coffee pot. This
piece was made by Philadelphia makers Whartenby & Bumm, and dates to circa
1816-1818. The pot is made in a striking, ornate style, beautifully hand chased
with a foliate design around the lower half of the body and the base of the
spout. The spout itself is done in the form of a bird's head and neck, finely
detailed and well done. The pot stands on four claw feet, with mounts in the
form of some mythical winged creature. The finial of the lid is nicely cast in
the form of a rose with leaves surrounding, and the pot has a matching
continuous band of rose decoration around the shoulder. Around the base and the
lid are continuous bands of eight-pointed stars. The pot has a monogram of CAC
on one side, but the other side has no monograms. Quite an impressive and
eye-catching piece.
The pot has a capacity of 6 cups, or 48 ounces/1.4 liters. The interior is
spotlessly clean and ready for use.
The pot is stamped on the underside with the maker's mark for Thomas
Whartenby & Peter Bumm, silversmiths working in Philadelphia circa
1816-1818.
This piece is in excellent overall condition. The insulators have been
replaced at some point in the past, we believe they are a celluloid material.
There is a tiny dent on one side of the body, which is hard to notice. The pin
of the lid's hinge is a little loose, this could be glued or epoxied in place
easily. There are no splits, no other dents, no leaks, no monogram removals, and
no repairs.
The pot stands about 10 inches tall.
The pot weighs 997 grams or 35.2 regular ounces.
